I have a 1TB external HDD. It’s FAT32 formatted. I never expected any problem until I recently had to deal with a 4.6GB file. I just can’t copy it to my 1TB HDD. Apparently a disk with FAT32 formatting can’t handle anything larger than 4.5GB, so in order to continue using my terabyte hard disk without any future complications regarding huge files, I had to change the file system to NTFS. Here’s how I did it without deleting the 300GB worth of files in there.

1. I attached the terabyte disk to my pc.
2. called up the command prompt
3. navigate to root folder (type “cd\”)
4. in the command window, type “convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs“
5. followed the instruction and I was done
